Meet Tracey

You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

Lucky for MACA the first impression of the company for those who visit our head office in Welshpool, is by Tracey at reception.

Tracey first joined the MACA team over 10 years ago and in that time has supported the business by not only being the first point of contact for visitors to the head office but connecting different areas of the business each day.

“It’s exciting to see how much MACA has grown over the decade, which has seen changes in my responsibilities. As a receptionist my role is not just answering the phone. I work with different departments, such as HR, purchasing, and accounts. You have to be flexible and ready for whatever crosses your desk,” she said.

It’s not surprising that Tracey ended up working in the mining industry. Growing up, Tracey lived in Papua New Guinea for 20 years as her dad was working in mining.

“Having a bit of an understanding of the industry and knowing the lingo definitely helps in my role. I am able to help people faster and ensure they find out what they need to know,” said Tracey.

Prior to commencing at MACA Tracey was a medical practice manager, but with very early starts and late finishes, Tracey grew tired of the role and wanted a greater challenge.

“When I saw the role at MACA advertised, I thought it wouldn’t hurt to apply, even though it was in a completely different industry I was working in. I’m a people person, and love chatting with people and listening to their stories.”

A week after the interview Tracey found herself behind the reception desk at MACA and hasn’t looked back.

“What I enjoy most about my role is the people. I like to make people feel comfortable, so whilst the visitors are waiting for a meeting or an interview, I always try and have a chat,” she said.

“One of the things what has kept me working at MACA for so long is the commitment the company has towards giving back to the community. So many people at MACA contribute to the MACA Cancer 200 Ride for Research, and that makes me really proud,” said Tracey.

When not at work, you will find Tracey repurposing furniture and spending quality time with her family.

“My life is full and happy with my husband and little family, including our four beautiful children, two cats, two dogs, and gorgeous grandchildren Wren and Tyson,” said Tracey.
