MACA is pleased to announce the completion of a newly developed airstrip at Karlawinda Gold mine.
After a 7 month construction period, the 2.0km airstrip (2.6km including safety areas) is now capable of landing a 100 seat jet aircraft.
With planes landing only a few hundred metres from camp, workers will arrive direct to site via a charter airline service rather than a flight through Newman and 1.5 hour bus trip.
Area Manager, Matt Miller, says the airstrip brings new efficiencies to the project.
“It gets our personnel onto site and working quicker but also gets our crew heading out, on a well-deserved R&R, home two to three hours sooner”, said Matt.
Scope of works included clearing and grubbing, topsoil stripping, pavement and drainage construction, culvert installation, three coat bituminous seal and linemarking.
“Well done and thank you to all involved with the delivery of this project”, said Matt.
The first charter flight is scheduled to land on 25 March 2022.
