Inspiring our engineers of tomorrow

MACA recently participated in the Science and Engineering Challenge Discovery Day at Claremont Showgrounds.

The Science and Engineering Challenge (SEC) is a nationwide STEM outreach program presented by the University of Newcastle in partnership with communities, Rotary clubs, universities, and sponsors.

Through the SEC, students experience aspects of science and engineering which they would not usually see in their school environment.

Ewen Koh, Senior Mining Engineer and SEC volunteer, said it was great to be part of the student’s learning journey and even better to see so many students actively engaged with the day’s activities.

“The challenges encouraged students to be creative, innovative and utilise problem solving skills in a team, whilst showcasing the role of science and engineering in our everyday lives.”

Year 5/6 students from eight different schools participated in meaningful, hands-on fun challenges aimed at inspiring them to consider a future career in science and engineering.

16 volunteers from MACA assisted the team from the University of Newcastle to run, manage and judge tasks.

“Everyone had a great day with the group of very intelligent students who have a bright future ahead of them. We hope you see a couple of them come through the industry someday,” said Ewen.

A big thank you to all of our volunteers who participated in yesterday’s event. MACA is pleased to support our engineers of tomorrow through a fantastic event.
