MACA recently hosted our Dump Truck Operator (DTO) assessment centre dedicated to Indigenous candidates seeking a career in the mining and resource sector.
General Manager Mining, Tim Gooch, and General Manager People, Linda Devereux, discussed company values and career pathways with the group, followed by a presentation from Technical Trainer, Rachel Raisin, who facilitates the DTO training program for new operators before they head to site.
Recruitment Manager, Rick Nardi, said he is delighted to be connecting Indigenous job seekers with real opportunities that can lead to a long and successful career.
“Aboriginal United Services assisted us in sourcing great quality candidates for this assessment centre, who appear to have a “can-do” attitude and the willingness to succeed.
“It’s a great pathway to the industry for those who may not have otherwise had the opportunity to kick start their career in mining,” said Rick.
One of our Indigenous employees, Ronnie Kamid, spoke of his experience and shared his journey with the 21 candidates. Ronnie joined MACA over 18 months ago as a Mining Supervisor, before transitioning to a Skills Trainer role to help others develop skills and progress in their careers.
In such a tight labour market, MACA is very appreciative that these candidates took time out of their day to hear a bit more about what we can offer.
“Successful candidates from the assessment centre will participate in a three-day training and simulation program before flying out for their first swing. We can’t wait to get them to site,” said Rick.
